What’s Up in Fourth Grade?

In math class, the fourth graders are learning how to convert measurements.   For example, 600 decameters (dam) = 6 kilometers (km) or 2000 meters = 2 km.

If you want to get really crazy, you can try this equation:

4 hm, 3 dam,  5 m = 435 meters

They also continue to practice their mathematical functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

In Creole class, the students have been learning to distinguish between the different types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.

These days in social science have been all about satellites in space–ie, planets and stars!

For science class, Teacher Ronyl gave a lesson on clean water–specifically about how to make water safe to drink and cleaner for bathing, washing, etc.  This education is very important in an area like ours where potable water does not come out of a spigot.  Although we have been working on water solutions for years, it is a very slow and complex process.  Some people still drink water from water holes or other dirty sources, especially when the drought is most severe.  But that number continues to decrease as more and more people learn about the importance of purifying their water.

French Teacher Kenol is currently working with the fourth graders on personal pronouns.  In French, these are “je, tu, il/elle, nous, vous, and ils/elles.”
