Field Trip to the Salt Flats
Last week, as part of their Social Studies learning, the Kindergarten went to visit the Salt Flats. Sea salt production has been a large part of the Anse-Rouge economy for generations. Sea water is channeled into shallow ponds. As the water evaporates in the sun, the salt is left behind. Salt farmers are struggling due to the difficulty of getting their product to the big cities.

Career Day in Kindergarten!
In Haiti, May 1 is "The Day of Agriculture and Work." In honor of the day, the Kindergarten celebrated Career Day!
Students chose a career for the day and dressed up accordingly. They then spent the morning learning about their job and doing related activities. We are so grateful to the men and women who came to represent their profession and spend time with our students.
Unfortunately, I was away on this day and don't have more photos or any at all of the "Teachers" group. But I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into a very fun day!

Happy New YEar!
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season! EML had a fun and beautiful Christmas program on Christmas Eve!
The Kindergarten started us off with a song (unmute at bottom right).
EML alumna, Ana,
helped emcee the program.
A big part of the program was a singing competition where each team wrote a song and then sent a member to present it. Here, our guest judges rate each performance.
Milliano won the singing competition!
We are so grateful for our wonderful kitchen staff! These amazing ladies provided chicken sandwiches for everyone!

Meet Our Four Teams!
This year, we are doing something we have been wanting to do for years! We have divided our students and teachers into four teams that will be in an ongoing competition throughout the year! These teams will compete in games and activities as well as discipline, academic achievement, participation, and more. There will be a winner each trimester.
Our team names were chosen based on qualities we want to encourage in our students. We then translated the names into four different languages. We chose Latin because of its impact on French and on education. We chose Hebrew and Greek because they are the original languages of the Bible. And we chose Wolof, which is a language spoken in West Africa, because of Haiti's connection with that part of Africa.
