A few months ago, we were sitting with a first-time visitor to the Plateau, answering some questions about Lemuel’s financial needs. “I have to tell you,” he said, “that when I first began hearing about Lemuel, I thought it would be a lot more interesting to give to a special project than the general fund. But now that I have been here, I see that, while projects are important, it is the general fund that is bringing change every day to this community.”
“How perfectly put,” I (Judy) thought, “We should call it the ‘Change Every Day Fund!’”
This really does a much better job of explaining what the vague, boring sounding “General Fund” does. A portion of it does indeed cover the not-so-exciting costs of functioning. But, it is that very functioning that provides the context for us to have the greatest impact. If it wasn’t for the life-on-life impact that Lemuel has through its day-to day functioning, the buildings and big projects would be pointless in the end. In Lemuel, we believe that nothing changes until people change. The change that happens in people’s hearts and minds happens over years of working together and living life together. It is the relationships that enable the buildings and projects to have a lasting, positive impact. It is the relationships that bring change every day.
So, we want to say thank you to all of you who support us and make it possible for us to build relationships and bring lasting change every day.
Did you know?
One of our most important activities—fòmasyon, ie investing in young men and women (see here (scroll down), here, and here)—is entirely funded by the "Change Every Day" fund? That is just one example of the crucial impact it has in lives.
