Emmanuel Junior Almaïs
School Director
Almaïs first became involved with Lemuel as a youth in 1998 in Port-au-Prince through soccer club. In 2007-2008, he came to work for a year on the Plateau, serving as bookkeeper and school director. After returning to Port-au-Prince and studying accounting, he came back to the Plateau last year to once again work in the finance office. He also threw himself heart and soul into running an excellent year of kid’s club. At the end of July, Almaïs was married! His new bride is Kattia Amazan, who some of you may remember as a teacher on the Plateau a couple years ago.
For 2015-2016, Almaïs has returned to the Plateau as the new school director. His objective for the school this year is to cultivate a strong spirit of unity and teamwork among the staff and to continue to develop and improve the quality of education provided by the school–scholastically, spiritually, and socially.
A favorite verse in the Bible: Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Almaïs says, “At one point in my life I was confronted by a difficult situation. I had learned this verse as a child, and it suddenly came back to me during that time. The problem I was facing soon was resolved, and it has been a favorite verse of mine ever since.”
Osselet Lilite
Director of Pedagogy
Osselet first started working for Lemuel in 2011 as the school director. This year, he fills the position of Director of Pedagogy. Only days ago, Osselet’s wife had their first child—a baby boy!
So what is “pedagogy” anyway? Pedagogy is the study of the practice of teaching and its various approaches. As a job position, it involves overseeing the material being taught in the school. The director of pedagogy is responsible for compiling the curriculum and lists of necessary books for each class. He is also charged with ensuring that the teachers are effectively teaching the correct material and that the school is following the educational requirements mandated by the state. If a teacher needs ideas for his classroom or is struggling to teach certain subject matter, the director of pedagogy is responsible to give the teacher help and suggestions.
A favorite passage in the Bible: 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” He also loves the hymn “When We All Get to Heaven” (the translated Creole version, of course).
Patricia Fatal Smith
Administrator/Treasurer/Kindergarten Supervisor
Patricia is originally from Port-au-Prince. Many of you will remember Patricia. Her first job with EML was in 2012-2013 as the school administrator and secretary. For the 2013-2014 school year, she worked as the Kindergarten supervisor while teaching Kindergarten 3. Her fiancée, Robenson Smith, followed her to the Plateau, and began working in our development department. They were married in December 2013. The following year, Patricia remained in Port-au-Prince to have their first child, Jessie.
We are thrilled to have the entire family together with us this year.
Patricia was in a university class when the earthquake struck Port-au-Prince in January 2012. She was trapped under rubble for several hours, although she was not crushed in anyway. “I promised God at that time that if He would get me out of the rubble alive, I would always use that experience as a testimony to His name. Ever since then, I never tire of telling people about how God saved my life.” She says again, “While we were trapped under the rubble, there were others near-by who I was able to talk to and share the Gospel. One of them accepted Jesus as her Savior, and to this day she is following Him…Even when you are in a bad situation, God can use you within it.”
A favorite passage in the Bible: Psalm 100. “It is a psalm of praise to God. My life is also a praise to God for His glory.”
Josiane Dumesle
Office Assistant
Josiane is a born and bred Plateau native. She recently finished her high school education in St-Marc, and has returned to the Plateau to work for Lemuel for a year. She is not technically a part of the school administration, but is and assistant in the office. Her job includes making copies for the teachers and school administration, helping to serve lunch, and assisting with other needs the school office may have. She is also responsible for first-aid care. Her dream since she was a child is to one day study nursing. In the meantime, she is getting a little practice!
A favorite passage in the Bible: Psalm 16. “I appreciate the way it describes the life of someone who walks with God. When I am discouraged, I read it and it gives me strength again.”
